Snow, Stitches, and a way belated Blogiversary

Snow  So, we did in fact get a couple of inches of snow on the mountains.  Here is a picture looking down my street and you can just barely make out some of the snow up on the hills.  Granted this is nothing in comparison to a lot of the rest of the US but it is fairly rare here.  This morning it was 26 degrees Fahrenheit.  Thank goodness I still have my ice scraper from when I lived in upstate New York!  I needed it this morning.

As I mentioned the other day I worked at Deep Color’s booth on Saturday and Sunday of Stitches.  I was beat afterward but it was still fun.  Pictured at left are the few things I picked up.  I try and only get things that I can’t get here locally or can’t make myself and frankly most synthetically dyed stuff doesn’t appeal to me much any more.  Pictured at top are the four books I purchased.  At far left is Norsk Strikkedesign: A Collection from Norway’s Foremost Knitting Designers was put out by Unicorn Books and Crafts in  2002.  I love this book even though I may never knit one design out of it.  I think it is very inspirational even if you are not into stranded color work.  Definitely thumb through it if you haven’t already.  Next is Barbara Walker’s Knitting from the Top which I now realize that I also have an original 1972 copy.  All the photos of the garments are missing from the newest release.  My guess is that they felt that the photos dated the book too much.  The next book to the right is Folk Socks which I was sure that I already had but couldn’t find anywhere so I went ahead and got another copy.  And last but not least is Knitting Around by Elizabeth Zimmerman.  I really enjoy reading her books and I didn’t have this one.

The yarn from left to right is two large skeins of very fine lace weight merino wool (Item # A-33) from Habu Textiles, a large skein of 100% wool lace weight that I think is from Henry’s Attic (Mariah), and two skeins of medium weight Socks that Rock from Blue Moon in colorways Moss Agate and Lemongrass.  They basically were sold out of the medium weight by midday Sunday.  I’m sure they did very well at the show thanks in no small part to the huge amount of good press they have been getting around the blog-o-sphere.  I am looking forward to seeing what the fuss is all about!

One last item, I totally blew past my one year blogiversary.  Whoops!  It was back on Jan 12th.  For some reason I thought I started in February.  If you go back and read my very first entry you’ll see that it was cut short before I even got started by the arrival of my husband (then fiance) with a present of a tiny little chihuahua puppy that was about 3 months old at that point and didn’t weight much more than a pound and a half.  Nowadays he still only ways about three pounds but plays huge part in our family.  Anyway, a major part of why I started this blog was to give back in some small way to the community of bloggers that I have been so inspired by.  I hope that I have been successful and managed to inspire you if only a little bit!  Thanks for taking the time to read!  Mwah!

Happy blogiversary! Wow, so much has happened in the past year! I’ve enjoyed reading about your fiber pursuits. I’m assuming you’ll be dyeing that lovely lace weight yarn?
